Feb. 27, 2020 update to campus on coronavirus (COVID-19)
Good afternoon NMC community:
Public health officials locally and around the world are monitoring the 2019 novel coronavirus disease, abbreviated COVID-19 and we want to keep you informed of efforts at Northwestern Michigan College.
NMC is working with health officials and monitoring the spread of COVID-19, from its place of origin in Wuhan, China. NMC does not currently have any teaching teams or study abroad groups in China.
There are no confirmed cases today on campus, or even in Michigan. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the risk for coronavirus in the U.S. is currently low.
NMC will continue to pay close attention to this developing issue, as we would with any infectious disease, to ensure the safety and welfare of our students, faculty, staff and visitors. NMC will continue to closely monitor the outbreak with the assistance and guidance of local, state and federal partners.
To help prevent the spread of infectious diseases health professionals recommend:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough
- Avoid close contact (touching or shaking hands) with people who are sick
- Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes
- Stay home when you are sick
We will continue to keep our campus community informed with up-to-date information on the coronavirus, COVID-19 and resources to keep ourselves and one another safe. For more information, visit cdc.gov.
Thank you.
