Veterans Day ceremonies

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College invites the campus and community to attend its annual Veterans Day ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will include:

  • 9 a.m. - Faculty, staff, students and community members line sidewalks for Walk of Honor to flagpoles
  • 9:15 a.m. - Welcome remarks
  • 9:35 a.m. - Flag raising ceremony 
    • "Taps" followed by "The Star-Spangled Banner" performed by the Traverse City Central High School Band
  • 9:45 a.m. - Closing remarks 

Coffee and doughnuts will be provided before and after the ceremony in the Osterlin Buildig.

Serving those who have served is a year-round priority for NMC, recognized as a gold-level Veteran-Friendly School by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.  The program recognizes academic institutions committed to supporting the needs of veterans and military-connected students. NMC was cited for a dozen different services offered to 76 current veteran students, including: 

  • Priority class registration
  • Veteran-specific career services
  • On-campus veteran's coordinator
  • Active student veteran organization/club
  • Veteran's lounge
  • Veteran-specific scholarships / grants
  • Veteran graduation recognition
