2019 Commencement
TRAVERSE CITY — Commencement ceremonies for Northwestern Michigan College's Class of 2019 will be held Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in the Traverse City Central High School gymnasium.
Ceremonies will be streamed live starting at 2 p.m. at nmc.edu/video and NMC's YouTube channel.
About 200 graduates are expected to participate in the ceremony. More than 650 students are expected to earn degrees and certificates including the Associate in Nursing, Associate in Science and Arts, Associate in Applied Science, Associate in General Studies and Certificate of Practical Nursing. Bachelor of Science degrees in Maritime Technology and Marine Technology will also be awarded.
This year’s student speaker is Emily Perkins, president of the NMC Student Government Association. Math instructor Steve Drake will give the Commencement address as the 2018 Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award recipient.
The 2019 Outstanding Alumni award recipients will be named during the ceremony, as will the 2019 winners of the Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award and Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award.
NMC University Center partner Ferris State University will award degrees as well.
A reception will follow the ceremony in the small gym.
NMC will also hold its annual Honors Convocation at 5 p.m. May 3 at the Dennos Museum Center. The event honors winners of the annual Academic Area scholarships, honors scholarships and Adult Student of the Year.
