IAF lecture: "America and Iran: Confrontation or Coexistence?"

TRAVERSE CITY — NMC's International Affairs Forum kicks off its 2018 season February 15 with a presentation on U.S.-China trade, the first of several thorny, timely topics to be presented from the Milliken Auditorium stage this winter and spring. The lecture line-up is:

  • Feb. 15 - "U.S.-China Trade: The Economics Behind the Politics" presented by James Levinsohn, Professor of Economics, Yale University
  • March 15 - "Rohingya Refugees: A Crisis Long in the Making" presented by Sara R. Curran, Professor of International Studies and Sociology, University of Washington
  • April 19 - "America and Iran: Confrontation or Coexistence?" presented by Reza Marashi, Research Director, National Iranian-American Council
  • May 17 - Presentation on Pakistan and India by Professor Ajmal Khan from Pakistan and Professor Rajohman Gandhi from India
  • June 21 - "U.S.-Mexico: A Border in Turmoil" presented by Alfredo Corchado and Angela Kocherga, award-winning journalists who call the border home

All lectures begin at 6 p.m. and are preceded by a reception in the Dennos Museum Sculpture Court at 5:15 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door and free to students and educators.

In addition to the regular lectures, IAF will present two Global Hot Spot events March 5 and April 5. Admission to both is by donation, which will benefit the winning team in IAF's 2018 Academic World Quest competition as they travel to Washington D.C. for the national competition.

  • March 5 - The Price of Peace film - time and place to be announced
  • April 5 - "Ethics and Transparency in Today's Media" - a conversation with NPR ombudsman Elizabeth Jensen and Interlochen Public Radio executive director Peter Payette. 7 p.m., Milliken Auditorium
