Faculty Teaching Credential Requirements Procedure
The Office of Human Resources will verify that all instructors (faculty, adjunct faculty, and teaching staff) have met the College faculty qualification requirements as detailed in Policy D-762.00, Faculty Teaching Credential Requirements Policy. This verification will be based on the Office’s review of the instructor’s official college transcripts.
Special Circumstances
In those cases, where an instructor has relevant coursework that is not easily identified by course prefix or title, the following verification process will be used:
- The instructor documents how their coursework (that does not use the prefix or course title of the discipline for which they teach) is related to their teaching field.
- The academic chair reviews the documentation and provides her/his verification rationale for supporting that the coursework is relevant to the teaching field.
- The appropriate vice president reviews the instructor documentation and the academic chair verification and provides her/his rationale for approving the use of the coursework to meet the College policy requirements.
- The above stated documentation is placed in the instructor’s transcript file in the Office of Human Resources with all her/his transcripts.
If any provision(s) of this policy or set of bylaws conflicts with laws applicable to Northwestern Michigan College, including the Community College Act of 1966, the Freedom of Information Act, or the Open Meetings Act, as each may be amended from time to time, such laws shall control and supersede such provision(s).
