Institutional Effectiveness Criterion: Champion
In-State Tuition for Military Personnel and Dependents
- Any individual using VA Education Benefits under either Chapter 30, Chapter 33, of title 38, United States Code, and/or the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship; in addition to anyone identified as a veteran, reservist, active duty, spouse and dependent of, shall receive in-state tuition rates regardless of his/her formal state of residency, while attending Northwestern Michigan College.
- NMC will continue to maintain its own residency, tuition, and admissions policies.
- NMC retains the right to require any documentation they consider necessary to verify the student qualifies as active duty military personnel, or as the spouse or dependent thereof.
- NMC will work to identify and eliminate the obstacles that students from military families face.
The Vice President for Student Services and Technologies, in conjunction with the appropriate faculty and staff, is responsible for the development and publication of any procedures or guidelines that may be necessary to administer this policy effectively.
If any provision(s) of this policy or set of bylaws conflicts with laws applicable to Northwestern Michigan College, including the Community College Act of 1966, the Freedom of Information Act, or the Open Meetings Act, as each may be amended from time to time, such laws shall control and supersede such provision(s).
