Staff Policy D-602.00
Institutional Effectiveness Criterion: Champion
Student Rights and Responsibilities
Northwestern Michigan College is dedicated to creating an academic community which promotes intellectual inquiry, encourages vigorous discourse, and respects individual freedom and dignity. Civility, diversity of opinion, and freedom of expression are all valued as the necessary foundation of a healthy learning community. Students are integral members of this community and are expected to participate in sustaining its values.
Northwestern Michigan College and its students should be maintained as an inclusive academic community which supports excellence in teaching and learning, protects rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution, and assures members of the community a safe environment free from violence, intimidation, fraud, theft, and harassment. The responsibility for reaching these goals lies with each member of the College community.
The Vice President for Student Services and Technologies, in conjunction with the appropriate faculty and staff, is responsible for the development and publication of any procedures or guidelines that may be necessary to administer this policy effectively.
