Staff Policy D-506.04
Institutional Effectiveness Criterion: Operations
Records Retention and Disposition Schedule
It is the intent of Northwestern Michigan College to be a responsible record keeper. A required Records Retention and Disposition Schedule has been developed to satisfy the laws of the State of Michigan, preserve the history of the College, protect the College during litigation or audit, minimize the cost of record retention, and optimize the use of space.
Each budget area will identify a person responsible for coordinating activities relating to the Records Retention and Disposition Schedule within that area. Individual units may add records to the retention schedule for their areas by completing a separate spreadsheet obtained from Administrative Services.
The Vice President of Finance and Administration, in conjunction with the appropriate faculty and staff, is responsible for the development and publication of any procedures or guidelines that may be necessary to administer this policy effectively.
If any provision(s) of this policy or set of bylaws conflicts with laws applicable to Northwestern Michigan College, including the Community College Act of 1966, the Freedom of Information Act, or the Open Meetings Act, as each may be amended from time to time, such laws shall control and supersede such provision(s).
