Copyright Policy
It is the intent of NMC to adhere to all federal copyright laws and the responsibility of every member of the College to follow the copyright laws set forth by Congress in the Copyright Act of 1976, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Technology Education and Copyright Harmonization Act (TEACH Act). Copyright guidelines are developed and accessible to employees that strongly encourage compliance with the copyright law, and inform employees of their rights and responsibilities under the law. All College employees are expected to obey the United States copyright laws in their use of print and electronic media. Employees who willfully disregard this policy do so at their own risk and assume all liability for their actions. Those who fail to comply with the Copyright Law may be subject to disciplinary action., up to and including termination.
All employees are asked to become familiar with the NMC Copyright Guidelines.
The VP for Student Services and Technologies, in conjunction with the appropriate faculty and staff, is responsible for the development and publication of any procedures or guidelines that may be necessary to administer this policy effectively. Relevant procedures, guidelines, and forms mentioned in this policy are maintained by the office of the VP for Student Services and Technologies.
If any provision(s) of this policy or set of bylaws conflicts with laws applicable to Northwestern Michigan College, including the Community College Act of 1966, the Freedom of Information Act, or the Open Meetings Act, as each may be amended from time to time, such laws shall control and supersede such provision(s).
