Physical Education Department(231) 995-1198 The Physical Education Department at NMC offers a wide variety of physical education “activity” courses. Many students enroll in physical education courses to pursue personal interests, improve physical fitness, participate in sports, engage in recreational activities, relieve stress, or gain additional credit. The Physical Education Department has courses grouped in the following areas:
In addition to the above credit courses, the Physical Education Program offers noncredit recreational opportunities for students. There are a variety of open recreation hours in the gymnasium where students may participate in pick-up games of basketball, volleyball, or indoor soccer. Outdoor facilities include an athletic field, softball diamonds, sand volleyball, basketball, and a frisbee disc golf course. Intramural Sports include co-ed softball, flag football, floor hockey, co-ed indoor soccer, co-ed basketball, and co-ed volleyball. Students may also join the Health and Fitness Center for a fee which includes the use of weight machines, exercise bikes, treadmills, stair climbers, and ski machines. Although Physical Education does not have its own Course of Study which leads to the completion of a degree, two of these credits may be taken as electives and used to satisfy the total number of credits required in Group 2 to fulfill the completion of Associate in Science and Arts degree. A maximum of two physical education credits may be used toward a degree.
