IT Academy Olympics

Overview and History

The eighth Annual IT Academy Olympics was held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at NMC's James Beckett Building.

Sponsored by a variety of local businesses, the competition is designed to give teams of area career and technical education (CTE) students an opportunity to apply their information technology (IT) skills.

First offered in 2016 to infrastructure students at the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District (TBAISD) Career-Tech Center (CTC), the competition was expanded to include developer students in 2017. More than 100 students took part in the 2018 competition, which featured a new website design competition and a robot challenge course and included the Wexford-Missaukee school district.

Competition Format

The competition is designed to challenge students to apply both their soft and technical skills. Each team of four is comprised of infrastructure and development students, selected at random from a master roster. During the 90-minute morning and afternoon sessions, each team's members compete in two of the following four events:

• Block Code Challenge
• Website Design
• LAN Party Challenge
• IT Technical Presentation

Prizes

Each student on the first, second, and third place teams are awarded a prize. All participating students receive a swag bag and are entered in a drawing for door prizes.
