NMC's Rogers Observatory, home to the college's Astronomy program

Astronomy

If star-gazing and planetary observation interests you, consider studying astronomy at NMC. You’ll experience classroom learning at the college’s Rogers Observatory, which contains a dome and indoor and outdoor telescopes.

Located off-campus south of Traverse City — to take advantage of dark skies — the Observatory was built to house astronomy classes as well as to provide an educational program for community groups. As an astronomy student, you’ll brush shoulders with plenty of other like-minded individuals given that the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society conducts regular programs at the Observatory.

NMC offers courses that focus on Observational, Planetary and Stellar Astronomy. Students planning on transferring to pursue a bachelor’s degree in this area should also take course work in mathematics and physics.
